Alexandria Safford of Ballston Lake Selected as NECC Women's Lacrosse Player, Rookie of the Week

Southern Vermont College freshman Alexandria Safford (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was chosen by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) as both the league's Player and Rookie of the Week for the period ending April 15, 2018 as announced on Monday.

Safford is collecting the rookie honor for the second-straight week, and she is the second Mountaineer to collect both accolades this season after classmate Mia Prouty (Bennington, Vt.) was named the Player and Rookie of the Week on March 19.

Through SVC's three games last week, Safford amassed 14 goals, eight ground balls, four draw controls, two caused turnovers, and an assist. She connected on 78.3 percent of her 23 total shots and helped the Mountaineers to a 2-1 week.

The Southern Vermont freshman tallied seven goals on eight shots in a close 11-9 win at Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Thursday, and she followed that with six goals and an assist during an NECC win at Dean College on Saturday. Against DC, Safford also registered four ground balls and three draw controls. She currently leads the Mountaineers in goals scored (27) and ranks third in all of the NECC.
