Kayla Emmi of Syracuse (Solvay High School) Honored on 2016-17 NECC Women's Basketball All-sportsmanship Team

2017 Mar 1

Southern Vermont College sophomore captain Kayla Emmi of Syracuse (Solvay High School) has been selected to represent the Mountaineers on the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Basketball All-sportsmanship Team for the second year in-a-row as announced by the league on Monday.

Emmi takes home the 2016-17 laurel after garnering it last February through her rookie season.

"Kayla has continued to provide a tremendous amount of energy and toughness to our women's basketball program," said SVC interim head coach Sharief Hashim. "Her willingness to accept her role and offer positive reinforcement during practice and games has made her a great teammate and leader."

Emmi made eight starts and appeared in 21 games this season for the Mountaineers. She tallied a career-high 10 points on December 11 at SUNY Cobleskill-a game which saw her just miss a double-double as she also snagged a career-best nine rebounds.

Coaches from around the NECC nominate their players for the league's major awards and all-Conference teams, and they then vote for each of the top accolades before the start of the postseason tournament.
